“A Bunch of Amateurs” Open Auditions Notice – 19th and 20th November 2024

RADS is pleased to announce our next production will be “A Bunch of Amateurs”, a comedy by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. 

Members and non-members are invited to attend informal open auditions in the Lounge at Allerton URC Hall on 19th and 20th November at 7.30 pm. No preparation is required. 

CHARACTERS 

Jefferson Steele (M): a fading Hollywood star who is arrogant, insecure, brash, gauche, demanding, vulnerable and ultimately aware of his own absurdity. Reasonably believable sustainable American accent required. 50+

Dorothy Nettle (F): director of Stratford Players, and the moving force behind keeping the theatre alive. Her sweet and accommodating manner conceals her inner steel. 40+

Jessica Steel (F): Jefferson’s teenage daughter, who has been neglected by her Hollywood star father and now wants to make him pay for it. Reasonably believable sustainable American accent required. 18+

Nigel Dewbury (M): solicitor and leading light of the Stratford Players. Pompous, stuck-up and self-regarding, he believes he is the star of the show, and should play all the leading roles. He also fancies his romantic chances with Dorothy. 40+

Mary Plunkett (F): owner of the Rectory bed and breakfast. Jolly, generous and an unashamedly adoring Jefferson Steel fan – although somewhat confused about which roles he played in his films, and how keen he is on her. 40+

Dennis Dobbins (M): handyman and village Mr Fixit. Avuncular though slightly dull, Denis is star struck by Jefferson and fancies heading up his entourage of one.

Lauren Bell (F): thirty something marketing executive, former physiotherapist and the sponsor’s wife. Passionate about the arts and smarter than her husband allows her to be, she’s treated as a bimbo because of her looks. Late 20s / 30s

Journalists (M and F): we only hear these off stage. 18+

FURTHER INFORMATION

Performance dates are Wednesday 21st to Saturday 24th May 2025.

Rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings from 7.30 to 10 pm. Additional rehearsals will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 10 pm closer to performance time. 

All rehearsals and performances will take place at Allerton URC Hall.
